As a therapist working with children with Autism, I frequently recommend this book. It is similar in prinicple to DIR and Floortime Therapy, but very readable. It is applicable for other children as well, though it is most often used with children with developmental delays. I think some of the reviews may not necessarily be the target reader. For instance, for a normally developing child who is slightly late in talking, the parent may just be looking for ways to augment vocabulary, not necessarily foster gains in development.

For what it''s worth, it is an excellent resource for parents'', therapists, and family members of individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum

A good basic building block on language and what you may be doing wrong. As parent''s it is easy to forget to keep things at the child level. It discusses possibly causes of frustration and how to work through them. I recommend the book. Also be sure to look into programs with your local community. I also recommend verify your child''s hearing and any other recommended testing by your doctor.

I will update my review in the future when our little girl is a little older.

My son is alittle languaged delayed due to effusions in both his ears. He lost his hearing, thus some language development until he had tubes placed. Now I am trying to get him where he should be. My insurance doesn''t pay for speech therapy, and I am not very impressed with the early childhood learning programs. This is when I found this book. It spells out a learning program that a parent can do, track your progress/your childs progress, and does a great job explaining how to get your child to interact with you. It also does a great job giving you very specific dos and don''ts. My son isn''t autistic, but I believe one of the authors does have a autistic child, and this seems to be a wonderful book for the purpose of trying to further language/social skills with a special needs child.

I would highly recommend this book, and compared with the other books out there it is very reasonable. I could only find this book on Amazon.

One of the best books I have ever read about practices to deal with late talking children. I have child with ASD, who till his 1,5 didn''t speak any single word. Now, he is 2,5 and speeks maybe 300-400 words, even more then other neurotypical peers. But this is not the most impressive change. He become much more social, eagerly want to graps our attention, taking our hand us to show what he does, smiles a lot, joking, turn-taking during play. These changes happend not only because we adopted technics from this book (we started intervention couple mounths earlier, unciously using most of described technics, and some others), but I think this book was the most valuable resource to us.

A great methodology

I believe in this method of connecting to children with autism. It offers hope for parents and educators alike and is respectful of the families whose lives are effected.
